Which Wood Lasts Longer In A Fence Or Deck, Redwood Or Cedar?
Redwood is better but I disagree w/dancer. Termites are not necessarily attracted to Cedar, any more than Redwood. My opinion is, even though Redwood is better, it is not worth the huge price difference. Taking under consideration that the redwood that is available today is not like the redwood that was available 30 years ago.
A fence constructed with either, if properly constructed and maintained will last longer than your lifetime. One tip, do NOT use concrete w/the posts. Concrete attracts and holds moisture at the post, encouraging rot. Back-fill w/stone. Just as sturdy if tamped and sheds water, keeping the post dryer, thus adding years to the life of the post.
