I Have Wood Outside On The Patio That Won’t Take A Stain?
wooden patio that was apparently treated before it was laid. It won't hold a stain for long before peeling off. Have tried oil based and water based with no luck. . . any ideas anyone please???? Was thinking of replacing with proper decking but sooooo expensive.

what was it treated with before?
if oil and water based stains are both peeling it sounds like somebody has either used a wax or maybe a varnish.
try sanding a small patch and staining again see if it works if it does you may need to sand the lot then stain.
if so get yourself a floor sander.
Sounds like you need to take off whatever is on it first. Talk to the people in your Home Depot or Lowes about the best way to do this and what product to use. Make sure it’s real wood and not a man made composite as well. A power wash might just do the trick.
The existing finish needs to be stripped off first, then you can apply a new coat.
Try jetwashing it first – strips everything off@!
It may have been done with an oil based treatment.
