How To Get Cat Pee Out Of Wood; And How To Get Rid Of Stray Cat?
There's a lot of stray cats where I live and one decided to mark his territory on our (unlaminated) wood deck. . . Now when we open the door, we smell cat piss! Yuck! I tried vinegar, but that failed miserably. . . .
We can't have this cat around our house because many of the outside cats have Feline Leukemia and we don't want our cats to get it. We have a dog that likes to chase outside cats, but this one wasn't afraid (they usually run for the hills) - this one poofed up and came closer so I brought my (*big*) dog back in the house. . . .
I don't know what to do! We don't have a squirt bottle, and shoeing the cat isn't working - the cat just comes closer (one time he tried dashing into the house when I went out to shoe him away. . . he always puts his paws up on the outside door and peers in, too)
Catching him and bringing him to the humane society isn't an option either. . . ![]()
Most cats around here are feral and run away as fast as they can when they see a person, so I was wondering if this cat might have rabies. . ? I don't really know what the signs are, but it's very peculiar that he didn't run away when my dog ran after him. . . (trying her best to look vicious)
Please help!

Humane traps are really the only thing you can do to catch the feral cats. We had the same problem and it was very effective on reducing the population. The cats must be taken to a shelter. If you just try to relocate them, they will return and continue with their tricks. Your other option is to look into motion sensitive sprinklers. When the sensors go off, sprinklers will kick in for about 10 to 30 seconds and will nail the cats. Hopefully they will get the idea and stay away from the area. Good luck.
Unfortunately, the urine problem will never go away. I recommend either (after cat removal of course) replacing the stained boards on your deck. Your only other option is to paint your deck and use a primer called KILZ. It has special enzymatic ingredients to stop the odor from seeping through paint. We bought a house that the previous owners cat peed in the bedroom and the smell was unbelievable. We primed with the KILZ (2 coats) and it worked wonders. Good luck on this issue also.
Catch the cats, in cages, and take then to the aspca to be put to sleep. feral cats arent pets, and they have to go. They are becoming more brave with you hand have to be taken away.
